Host welfare training. Every host learns this guide together with our scam-awareness training. It covers callers who are very low, callers who become too attached, and what you must never do. This website is not an emergency service, and a report here does not summon help. Do not wait for a platform response in an emergency.

Warning signs a caller is very low

  • "No one will miss me", "I won't be here tomorrow", "what is the point".
  • Saying goodbye in an unusual way, or giving things away.
  • Talking about a method or a date to hurt themselves.
  • Sudden calm after deep sadness.
  • "You are the only reason I am alive."

When a caller mentions self-harm

Stay calm, listen without judgement and speak slowly. You are offering conversation, not crisis treatment. Encourage the caller to contact professional support and, if they can, someone they trust. Do not prolong a paid conversation as a substitute for urgent help.

Say this in English

“I care about your safety, and I am glad you told me. I am not trained to help in a crisis. If you might hurt yourself now or are in immediate danger, please call 112 now. For mental-health support, you can call Tele-MANAS on 14416. Can you make that call now? If you can, ask someone you trust to stay with you. We can end this call so you can reach that help.”

Welfare concern, never a strike

Self-harm mentions must never count as a strike. Do not use the planned # end-and-block key solely because someone shares distress. The planned * key ends the call without making that block report; hanging up normally also ends it.

When a welfare reporting route becomes available, mark the concern clearly as welfare, include the call ID and avoid unnecessary personal details. AI safety flags about self-harm go to welfare review, never punishment. Neither a flag nor a report guarantees immediate human attention.

When a caller becomes too attached

Signs: calls you every day for long hours, often late at night; wants only you and gets angry when you are offline; says "I love you" or "you are all I have"; asks for your number, photo, address or a meeting; spends far more than before.

  • Never flirt, and never say "I love you too".
  • Never promise "I will always be there for you".
  • Never share contact details or social media, and never meet.
  • Keep the conversation friendly and general.
  • Flag the caller early. The platform — not you — limits or ends the contact. The caller only ever sees "This host isn't available right now"; your name is never attached to a refusal.

Never misguide

  • No medical, medicine, legal, money or relationship advice.
  • Never keep a low or attached caller on the line to earn more minutes, and never encourage dependence on you. This is a removal offence under the host agreement.

Do not say

  • “You are overreacting” or “Just be positive.”
  • “Other people have it worse.”
  • “Promise me you will never do it.”
  • “I can fix this” or “This will stay secret.”

Do not ask for method details, offer a diagnosis or promise that emergency services have been contacted. Calls are not recorded, but do not promise confidentiality.
