How do I end a call, and what does # do?

You can hang up at any time. The # key also blocks the other person and reports them.

Read in 2 minUpdated 8 Oct 2026For everyone

You are always in control of a call. You can end it at any second. If something feels wrong, you can use the # key.

Hang up any time

Just hang up your phone, like any normal call. The host can do the same.

  • You do not need a reason.
  • You do not need to say sorry.
  • Charging stops when the call ends.

Payment never buys permission to cross a boundary. If you feel uneasy, you can hang up.

The # key

Press the # key (hash key) at any time during the call. Three things happen:

  1. The call ends.
  2. The other person is blocked. They cannot call you again, and you cannot call them.
  3. The incident is reported. Our trust and safety team looks at it.

You do not need to speak to anyone after. One key press does all three.

When to use hang up and when to use

Hang up when the call is just not right for you. Maybe you do not enjoy the talk. Maybe you are busy. Maybe the voice is not clear.

Press # when someone breaks a rule or makes you feel unsafe. For example:

  • abuse, threats or gaali,
  • sexual pressure,
  • asking for your OTP, UPI PIN or bank details,
  • asking for your number, WhatsApp or Instagram,
  • asking you to send money or to meet.

Example

Priya gets a call from a host who begins to talk well. After 5 minutes he says he is from her bank. He asks her to “verify” her account with an OTP. Priya knows that is a scam. She presses #. The call ends. He is blocked and reported. The AI had also seen this, and the account was flagged.

Good to know

  • AI also follows every live call. It can end a call by itself if it finds abuse or a scam.
  • Three confirmed strikes lead to a permanent ban. Serious cases can be banned at once.
  • If the AI made a mistake, tell us at grievance page. A person will look at it.
  • You can also report later at report form.

In real danger, call 112. See emergency help and safety centre.

What happens when I press #?

The call ends right away. The other person is blocked, and the incident is reported to our team.

Do I have to give a reason for hanging up?

No. You never owe an explanation. Either person can hang up at any second.

Will I be charged after I hang up?

No. Charging stops when the call ends. You pay only for the connected minutes.
